Reason 32: He was a member of the Cambridge Footlights Revue
“Laurie had his first experiences as a performer by getting involved with the Footlights Club (Along with Stephen Fry, Tony Slattery, Emma Thompson and some others), a famed undergraduate comedy revue group. In his last year at Cambridge, Laurie was elected President of the club, with fellow Footlighter Emma Thompson acting as Vice President.”
“Hugh Laurie: Hugh is an excellent pianist- in fact, we first met him sitting by himself in the Footlights clubroom, gently tinkling on the piano. We re-tuned the piano, cleared the mess up and gave him a part in the Footlights pantomime. He says things like “Yuh”, “Uh huh”, “Ermmmmmm” and “You didn’t want a cigarette, did you?” He was scheduled to be in the Cambridge Glandular Fever team against Oxford, but unfortunately a sudden attack of rowing forced him to drop out. He reads Archeology and Anthropology. HIS IDEAL HOLIDAY: Somewhere totally new and different… like the Archeology and Anthropology Department.” Footlights programme.
“Hugh Laurie: 1981 President of Footlights, Hugh is also a Cambridge Rowing Blue; indeed, he rowed on the 1980 Boat Race when Cambridge lost by five feet, and if you want to endear yourself to him this fact is well worth shouting out during the show. A cross between Albert Einstein and Clint Eastwood, Hugh is ugly and stupid. He plays a mean guitar and a rather selfish harmonica.” Footlights programme.

Reason 43: His acceptance speeches
“On the way over here, I made a list of all the people who deserve to be thanked. It came to 172 names. You ready? (Laughter) I thought obviously I can’t do that, so… I wrote down the 172 names, put them on little individual pieces of paper, and I have them in my left-hand trouser pocket. I’m just going to draw out three at random. And everyone else can just lump it! (Laughter) Give it a good shake [shaking his trousers and pulling out a name]: I’d like to thank the script supervisor Ira Horwitz! [Applause. Pulls out another name.] I’d like to thank the hair stylist, Diana Acrey! [Applause. Pulls out another name.] To hell with that! [Throws it away. Pulls out another.] I’d like to thank my agent, Christian Hodell. [Applause.] That’s not my handwriting. Oh, he’s good!…” Hugh Laurie - 63rd Golden Globe Acceptance Speech In 2006
“I am speechless. I’m literally without a speech. It seems odd to me that in the weeks leading up to this event, when people are falling over themselves to send you free shoes and free cufflinks and free colonic irrigations for two, nobody offers you a free acceptance speech. It just seems to me to be a gap in the market. I would love to be able to pull out a speech by Dolce & Gabbana. […] And thank all my fellow actors on House and the wonderful writers and producers and a truly wonderful crew. I know everyone says they have a wonderful crew, and logically that can’t be the case. They can’t all be wonderful. Somebody somewhere is working with a crew of drunken thieves. But it’s not me. They are truly a wonderful collection of people… and I’m privileged to spend my days in that company and they smell of newly mown grass.” Hugh Laurie - 64rd Golden Globe Acceptance Speech In 2007
“This award for Best Dramatic Actor, I accept with thanks but I would like to dedicate to the wonderful cast, producers, writers and crew, who— well, because I owe them everything. They are truly fantastic and an honor to work with. The other award that we got for Best Television Drama, I would like on their behalf to dedicate to me, because I— well, without me, they’re nothing and I am truly fantastic and an honor to work with.” Hugh Laurie - People’s Choice Awards 2010

TEN REASONS TO LOVE GREGORY HOUSE.

homefortheextraordinary:

|Thomas Gallagher| |51| |Guardian Leader| |Puppetry,  The ability to control others actions at his will| |FC: Hugh Laurie | Thomas is the oldest of the last generation of guardians, He was in the rescue mission that had gone wrong, killing two of his best friends. He was never right after that, not that he ever had been really, he had always been somewhat of a prat, very blunt and only kind to those he though deserved it. That day he lost the spark that kept him going at the missions, He learned to stay and help out with the children at the home from then on out and keep to himself when he wasn’t. Thomas had come to the home when he was 11, and was never able to leave, not that he wanted to, he hated his home life anyway, his parents were quite the pair of idiots. Thomas never thought he was going to like the home until he met Lucas’ parents, whom became his two best friends through the years where he learned to train with their parents and the other passed on guardians. Now the only thing he is seen doing is using his power to keep kids who are flipping out when they wake up down without a dangerous fight that could injure others. He is extremely protective towards Lucas’ trying to take up the role of his father even though he knows he can never compare. Notes:  He has extreme survivors guilt that he’s never gotten over.
